Based in Baton Rouge, Gulf South Solar is the leading solar provider for Louisiana and the Gulf South. GSS and its dealer network have been installing high-quality solar system since 2003. We distribute, design, sell and install solar PV (photovoltaic) modules, solar water heaters and solar pool heater systems for both residential and commercial clients. GSS currently holds the distinction of having installed both the largest commercial solar PV installation in the state (31 kW) as well as the largest residential solar system in the state (18kW).

Trained and Professional Installers

Our talented staff and network of certified installers and dealers are led by GSS President Jeff Shaw – one of Louisiana’s first NABCEP certified professionals. The requirements and application to sit for the NABCEP semi-annual testing are stringent, and only about 20% of these installers are able to pass the test.

Philanthropy

Gulf South Solar is passionate about environmental responsibility and we are committed to being good stewards of this planet and its natural resources. We have worked with missions and non-profit organizations all over the world, bringing solar power to impoverished areas without electricity. From providing solar for DVD players for villagers in the Sudan to volunteering with Brad Pitt’s Make it Right Foundation, the employees and management at Gulf South Solar pride themselves on their philanthropy and volunteerism.

Legislation

As part of our commitment to renewable, clean energy, Jeff Shaw, president and founder of Gulf South Solar worked closely with Rep. William Daniel to craft Louisiana’s Net Metering law – House Bill 789 “The LA Renewable Energy Development Act”. This bill was signed into law during the Spring 2003 Legislature. In addition, along with energy expert Wade Byrd, we assisted Senator Nick Gautreax in the passing of the current tax credits in in 2007 and sat on a committee to assist in the writing of the tax credit rules. Most recently, Jeff worked with Rep. Franklin Foil to to pass Louisiana’s Solar Rights Legislation in 2010.
